I love a good cleanse but I’m not the kind of gal that can skip meals. I get grumpy and shaky when I skip food for even half a day. Although pushing through this dependence is part of the joy for some, it’s not my main goal for a cleanse. For me, a good cleanse is about feeling light. It helps me rest from the toxins I’m putting in my body like alcohol and sugar. Yogi Bhajan says, “A regimen of healing foods ‘bathes’ the internal organs with particular nutrients. . .” and I just love that idea!

I learned the Green Cleanse from my Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training and it’s still my go to. It’s perfect for people who are lean. If you don’t have enough body weight to give up food for a more traditional cleanse like The Master Diet, the Green cleanse is perfect. It’s a wonderful diet for women and it’s perfect for people who are highly active too. You can learn all about the Green Cleanse here.

The basics are: if it’s green – eat it! You can have mung beans and you can have around handful of pistachios a week although you should try to limit your proteins. You can eat spinach, lettuce, chard, zucchini, tomatillos, green peppers, jalapeños, poblanos, leeks, chives, leafy greens, honeydew melon, green grapes, kiwi, green apples, green onions, broccoli and so many wonderfully healthy foods!

Macerated Kale Salad with Fresh Lime Dressing

This Kale Salad can be adapted to include all your favorite flavors! I chose to add a bit of pistachios, green onion, and golden raisins. But you could include shaved brussel sprouts, grapes, kiwi, broccoli and all kinds of things. The secret is in the dressing – which is delicious and helps soften the kale.

Macerated Kale Salad with Fresh Lime Dressing Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 bunch of kale
  • 1/4 cup golden raisins
  • 1/4 cup pistachios
  • 1/4 cup brussel sprouts
  • 1/2 lime
  • 1 sprig of green onion
  • 1 sprig of chives

Instructions

  1. Chop the kale into small pieces and massage to soften.
  2. Juice the lime and toss through the kale.
  3. Allow the lime juice to soak and continue to toss every few minutes while you prepare your other ingredients.
  4. Finely chop the brussel sprouts, chives, and green onion. Toss into the salad mix.
  5. Finish the salad by chopping pistachios and adding to the top of the salad.
  6. Last add the golden raisins. Enjoy!

Green Lettuce Wraps

Green lettuce wraps are hands down my favorite meal when I am doing a green cleanse. It’s an everyday meal that you can eat over and over again. I chose to use spinach, broccoli, zucchini, green onion, tomatillo salsa and avocado but you could adapt these ingredients to your taste buds.

Green Cleanse Lettuce Wraps Recipe

Ingredients

  • Many pieces of Green Leaf Lettuce
  • 1/4 cup spinach
  • 1/4 cup broccoli
  • 1/4 cup zucchini
  • 1 sprig of green onion
  • 1/2 avocado
  • 1 tbsp. tomatillo salsa

Instructions

  1. Thoroughly wash and dry large pieces of lettuce. You will need 1-2 pieces for each wrap you create.
  2. Finely chop the spinach, broccoli, zucchini, and green onion.
  3. Add to the lettuce leaves using the leaves as a taco shell.
  4. Top the finely chopped vegetables with sliced avocado and tomatillo salsa.
  5. Enjoy!

Green Gazpacho Recipe

Ingredients

  • 4 large tomatillos
  • 4 large (or 1 pint mini) green heirloom tomatoes
  • 1/2 english cucumber
  • 1/2 cup green bell pepper
  • 1/3 cup green onion
  • 1 large jalapeño
  • 1 large lime
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 tbsp. basil
  • 1 tbsp. oregano
  • 1 tbsp. cumin
  • salt & pepper to taste
  • a pinch of cayenne

Instructions

  1. Finely chop your tomatillos, cucumber, bell pepper onion, jalapeño, and garlic.
  2. Add all the ingredients to a large bowl.
  3. Toss in all the spices including the basil, oregano, cumin, salt, pepper, and cayenne.
  4. In a food processor, combine the heirloom tomatoes and lime juice and blend until puréed.
  5. Add around 1/3 of the chopped vegetable mixture into the food processor and pulse until smooth.
  6. Add the liquid tomato mixture from the food processor in the large bowl with the rest of the vegetables.
  7. Chill for 2 hours and serve cold.

Easy Guacamole

Just as simple as 1, 2, 3! This easy guacamole is just a smash and go recipe. If you want to spice it up, add lime, green onion, tomatillos, salt and pepper. Or you could just keep it simple with just the avocado. It’s so tasty and so easy!

Easy Guacamole

  • 1 avocado
  • salt & pepper to taste
  • optional: 1/2 lime, green onion, tomatillos

Instructions

  1.  Open an avocado and smash it.
  2. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  3. For an authentic guacamole add a dash of lime juice, diced tomatillos, and finely chopped green onion.
