All workshops take place at TXRX Labs Hackerspace 205 Roberts St. 77003
On the East Side of Downtown – Near the Major Intersection of Harrisburg and York.
The TXRX art space features beautiful lighting, white walls and an installation by Jasmina Jasarevic and Renee Cruz (pictured below). It’s a perfect setting for Pop Shop’s beginner friendly, lo-fi craft and design workshops. Our goal is to teach you how to make extremely stylish, sellable, and boutique-worthy goods and to give you the business skills to sell those goods. We always create a super fun setting just like our festivals and will teach you how to make many of the handmade goods you would see at a Pop Shop festival. There will be cocktails and music. Best of all it will be fun, so bring your girl pals and guy pals and come make with us!
Our workshops are lo-fi meaning, we teach you the skills at the workshop, so that you can replicate them at home without a lot of heavy equipment. These events will be every first Friday of the month in conjunction with the TXRX Open House. While you are at our workshop, you can meet and greet the members of TXRX, learn about the equipment like 3d printers, laser cutters, and more.
We were so excited to be approached by long time colleague TXRX Labs Hackerspace to produce these workshops in their new art space. TXRX Labs is the largest makerspace in Houston. It has been growing rapidly and have changed dramatically over the last few years. Spearheaded by Roland Von Kurnatowski, TXRX has just expanding to a several new buildings, one of which has become an art space and the other will soon to house artists studios.
Pop Shop began collaborating with TXRX Labs when we both began working with The Houston Public Libraries. Under the leadership of a great programming department, HPL has made it a goal to add makerspaces and maker programs to their libraries. That’s where TXRX and Pop Shop came in. Harris County is on a similar trajectory and even hosted Creatorspace, the Clear Lake ex-NASA engineering makerspace, at their Freeman Branch.
We’ve co-participated with TXRX at Alief Teen Tech Week, The HPL Library Card Kick-Off, and last November TXRX Labs joined the Pop Shop Houston Festival and made free 3d printed selfies, diy leather key rings, and other activities that were free for those in attendance of the festival.
