It was an absolutely dark and dreary day. That’s why I just had to cheer my guy and gal up with these totally irresistible Homemade Peanut Butter Dog Treats. To make these you only need 4 ingredients.
They are really easy and only take a few minutes. And these are the types of treats that are going to make your dogs so happy! If you want to go straight to the recipe, scroll down to the bottom. And read along for our quick tips on making these Homemade Peanut Butter Dog Treats.
The ingredients are so simple! All you need is: whole wheat flour, apple sauce, peanut butter, and one egg.
You’ll need to bake them in an oven and you will need a bowl for mixing. As you mix the dough it becomes really thick, you may want to use a spoon for a bit and then finish mixing with your hands.
Since I wanted to cut mine into super cute shapes like bones and hearts I also used my regular cookie cutters. Cutting them into shaped treats isn’t necessary, but it is really fun! If you want to just scoop them into regular round cookie shapes you can. And if you want shaped treats, you will also be rolling the dough on a flat surface with a rolling pin.
Every time I pull the peanut butter, my dogs go CRAZY! That’s Dr. Girlfriend and she was hovering around the whole time I was making these treats! She couldn’t resist. And that’s how I knew these Homemade Peanut Butter Dog Treats we’re going to be a hit.
There’s no trick to mixing and rolling out these treats. All you need to do is make sure your ingredients are thoroughly blended. The same technique as how you would mix brownie batter. As for rolling them out and shaping them into cookies, the thickness of the dough doesn’t make a huge difference. Around 1/4 inch is perfect – but they don’t need to be precise!
Place them on an ungreased cookie sheet a few inches apart. The treats won’t shrink or expand which makes them easy to bake.
As irresistible as they are, be sure to let them cool before giving them to your pooches! And remember these are treats, so don’t give them more than a few at a time.
