Making the Red Velvet Cookie Dough

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Unwrap 24 cherry kisses so that they are ready to go. You won’t have time to unwrap them once your cookies are done baking, so do it now.

The best thing about a cake mix cook hack is that most of the ingredients are in the cake mix. No need to spend a bunch of time measuring, sifting, or mixing.

Just cut open the bag of cake mix and dump it in to a bowl. Crack in two eggs, add 1/3 cup of vegetable or canola oil and 1/4 cup of water. Stir well to mix everything into a wet dough.

Use a cookie scoop or your hands to scoop 1 inch round balls of red velvet cookie dough and place about 2 inches apart on your lined baking sheet.

Bake the cookies for 9-11 minutes, until the cookies look just slightly underdone. They will continue cooking and setting as they cool. Remove them from the oven.

Immediately press a cherry kiss candy into the center of each red velvet cookie. Remove cookies from baking sheet to a cooling rack or counter top to finish cooling. Let the cookies cool completely and let the kisses set and harden before serving. If the kisses seem to stay soft, put the cookies in the refrigerator or freezer for about 10 minutes to help them set up.

Serve to someone you care about. Wait for them to shower you with praises and to request more cookies.

Customizing Your Red Velvet Cherry Kiss Cookies

Like I said earlier, these Red Velvet Cherry Kiss Cookies are great for so many holidays! You can make them exactly as is, or you can use these tips and ideas to customize, depending on the holiday. Take these tips and apply them to any other celebrations you can think of – like baby showers or birthdays!

Christmas

These cookies are bright red, which make them perfect for Christmas. But if you want to make them even more Christmas, roll the balls of unbaked cookie dough in green nonpareils or green sanding sugar. Another idea would be to melting white almond bark, add a few drops of green food coloring, and drizzle stripes across the finished cookies.

Valentine’s Day

Again, the bright red of these cookies is already perfect. But, to give even more Valentine vibes, roll the unbaked dough in white or pink nonpareils or sanding sugar before baking. Or melt white almond bark and drizzle white pink stripes over the baked and cooled cookies.

Fourth of July

Melt white almond bark and color half of it blue. Dip 1/3 of the cookie in white almond bark and let set. Then dip another third in blue almond bark and let set. Now you’ve got red, white and blue cookies!

And there you have it! Easy, delicious, and completely customizable cookies to fit whatever your cookie needs may be. And if those needs are just some weeknight cookie baking at home, these Red Velvet Cherry Kiss Cookies are perfect for that as well!
